“What For?”

What is the purpose of this life? While talking to one of my new friends I found out that he doesnt believe in a Supreme Being Who created the vast universe...a Creator Who has no beginning and Who has no end!

Ironically he believes that what comes and goes, comes again in a cycle. This reminded me of what a wise king of the Israelite nation wrote, “That which has been is what will be,That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.”(Ecclesiastes 1:9).

My friend believes that we are here on earth just to live and go through what will happen today or tomorrow. A plain and simple purpose.

With all the modern technology surrounding us, we still witness how the rain falls from the sky, how the bird spreads its wings and glides, we still hear the thunder roar and the lightning strike, we still can savor the sprouting leaves from the stems of a tree branch... and despite all that... most people tend to live lives in quiet desperation... with the modern way of living, of highly sophisticated gadgets which never seem to stop being upgraded, still most men search for the meaning of life, the very purpose of life they have now!

What is the purpose of life indeed? Where will one begin looking for it? Where can it be found? Is it found in those booklets written by some self-acclaimed guru? Can you obtain it by physical or mental examinations? Despite human gain, why is the search for the meaning or purpose of life so elusive? The more they gain the more they become discontent.. all of those questions can’t be answered by science, no matter how they try!

The Bible has the answer for all of these! Ironically... it is where people searches the answer last!

The Holy Bible starts with Genesis... which in English  means, “beginning”.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”Genesis 1:1

And in Gen.1:26-28,  “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

v27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
v28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Unfortunately most people especially in the western world believes that man is another kind of animal that is just a little higher than the chimps but still another form of animal. That makes more it complicated to answer the question of what is the purpose of our lives.

Animals have a distinct behavior. We are not animals... my cat doesn’t play the guitar like I do. My pet ducks cannot play the violin either which my sons and the children of my friends do! My wife and most housewives knows how to cook... but my chickens always end up being cooked!

Man is created uniquely by GOD. Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

Read it... your very own Bible states it, man is made differently from the animals... and God Himself breathed the breath of life to man to become a living being!

Man can reason out. Man makes its own decision, but animals instinctively do the same thing over and over again!

Animals are created according to its kind, but we, humans are created in GOD's very own image and likeness! (Genesis 1:24-28).

There is no contention that man and animals are both living beings. Both die. Both cease to breathe. But man has a spirit which gives us the creativity, the emotion, the personality and the intellect. “But there is a spirit in man,and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.” (Job 32:8)

As a human, we can create nice music, we are capable of building creative architectural designs, and yet man can also commit unthinkable things to fellow man, man explores space for its profit and yet lets missiles and rockets rain on fellow man.

So what is the purpose of our life? Am I just here to go to school then find a job and work and enjoy such pleasures? Am I here just to absorb problems or to worry about everything? Am I here just to do the daily routine of surviving to live?

The answer is plain NO!

Man’s problems are spiritual in nature after all. From education to governments, health, relationships. Most problems are etched with a spiritual aspect! We absolutely don’t need to go from one place to another to search the answer of our lives, what we need is a change in our very own selves!

Adam and Eve, our first parents made the same mistake we are doing now. We participate in both the good and evil. But Jesus Christ our Saviour made only one choice. Adam and Eve’s mistake is the very same mistake that we are emulating as well. They both die and suffer and so do we. But Jesus Christ lived a godly life and sacrificed Himself for all mankind, eventually paying for us the penalty of our evil deeds! He came here on earth to heal us and make available the Spirit of GOD...the solution for mankind’s misery!

Our main purpose is to become heirs and partakers of the coming Kingdom of God, the ultimate goal that we are here for. To become spiritual children of the Supreme Ruler of all! It’s not about making money. It’s not about fear It’s not about becoming famous. It’s not about being under the spotlight and enjoying the glitter of success. It’s not all about gaining social status...

The ultimate purpose is to become a new creation with the Spirit of GOD and to be ressurected to a new life as immortal children of GOD...joint heirs of Christ in all things when the time is come!

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba,Father.”

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs of Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (Romans 8:14-17)

It is not just a lingering promise for the future. It is the answer to all mankind’s dilemma and suffering. GOD is a Father to us now...He gives hope to those who completely submit to Him...and the purpose of life always begins turning to our Creator and begin to rely on His precious Word...which is written in the Bible from the very beginning.
